Transport Board Worker Allegedly Overstepping Boundaries

Overstepping Antigua St. John's - A female employee of the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board (ABTB) was accused of stepping the bounds of her employment and authority.

Caribarena has learned that the senior female employee has been chasing after busmen operating from the West Bus Station to deal with matters that fall within the purview of Traffic Police.

It was revealed that the employee has been positioning herself at non-designated Stops where passengers were known to wait for buses.

It was also reported that the female employee was now stalking bus drivers at the entrance to the Antigua State College at Golden Grove.

Bus drivers and passengers saw this as aggravating and called on the authorities to caution the overzealous employee.

Police Sergeant, Ivor Lawrence was said to have previously warned her that she was stepping beyond her duties.

Efforts to get a response from manager of the Transport Board Harry Josiah were unsuccessful.

A prominent member of the society confirmed that he had personally reported his observations to Traffic Commissioner Vere Browne.

I CAN UNDERSTAND HER FRUSTRATION, BUT WE ALL KNOW TOO WELL ABOUT ROAD RAGE; SHE COULD MAKE A REPORT TO HER SUPERVISORS WHO IN TURN HAS MORE CLOUT TO GET A RESPONSE FROM THE POLICE. IF THIS IS OUTSIDE HER JOB SCOPE HER SAFETY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FIRST, SINCE THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO MONEY TO SEND HE AWAY FOR SEVERE TRAUMA.I'M HAPPY YOU ARE ALL FOR LAW & ORDER BUT CALL THE POLICE NEXT TIME

this is happening at the airport too. there is a woman who is overstepping her authority and trying to deal with an employee who is standing up for his rights and trying to follow the correct guidelines. She has invented policies which run counter to civil service rules and because he has challenged her, she is now seeking to pull the strings of the air traffic chief and PS to have him demoted.

Is it me? or something else wrong with this picture here?

A set of Civilians continuously breaks and have NO REGARDS to the Traffic laws and one civilian (Government/Statutor y employee) whose organization help makes, modifies, overlaps and works alongside the Traffic Laws shows up and tries to intimidate the law breakers to get it right and this same organization employee is being accosted of doing things wrong.

This sounds like a Walmart employee.

DO NOT GET ME WRONG BUT I DO NOT SUPPORT HER "ALLEGED" OVER STEPS HERE!

But shouldn't the same bus drivers AND bus riders and other civilians be questioned...Why they themselves was in the wrong?? AND BE REPRIMANDED FOR SUCH before this lady is??????????

Tarhl man...we really going down the five cities of the plains.... :-x

I do agree with this article where I think that these transport board employees apparently feels as they are the supreme ones. I had experienced where I went to have my vehicle certified and was told that my vehicle horn was too loud and I should buy a new horn to replace the existing horn. For the first time I have heard something like this and when I discussed the issue with others , they simply laughed and said that maybe someone does not like me.

A good citizen

Not sure why she is doing it. Also not sure if what the bus drivers are doing is illegal but I am sure that the lady in question is just being a good concerned citizen and perhaps he traffic police needs to do their job to include enforcing the speed limit especially on bus drivers and big truck drivers. No one cares about doing their jobs right in Antigua so give this lady a gold star. Maybe they should promote her and make her the chief of the Transport Board.

I take my hat off to the lady who supposedly has been 'stepping beyond her duties'. Bus drivers break the law and get away with it every single freaking day. It appears to me that this lady is trying to make a difference, and a good one at that, however, when an employee makes and strives to be a better employee they're immediately put down. Something wrong here! Let's big up those Government workers that sleep on their desks from the moment they get to work til they leave for home! Give me a break. What's the message that's being sent out here? "Bus drivers and passengers saw this as aggravating and called on the authorities to caution the overzealous employee" - what, because she saw they were breaking the law and the police do nothing about it. I'm telling you, it's the wild wild west out there! :-|

I can understand the fustration of this worker. The lazy policemen are complaining about encroachment on their turf but sit down and do nothing. Of course Errol only reacts if there is a national out cry.

Perfectly right Lady. I OFTEN see bus drivers stopping for Herberts passengers at the corner from Buckley's gas station. actually, everyday. The cops are never around.
